So this week saw the long-awaited release of GPT-4 from OpenAI.

And before you knew it, there was a flurry of commentators signalling the end of the media world.

Nobody knows what the latest release of GPT will achieve. Or how it will change society.

The most interesting impacts will be how humans utilise and adapt to a whole new level of internet-powered assistance.

Here are the eleven things I expect to change a great deal over a short period:

AI will completely change education.

The way we assess educational achievement will have to change dramatically - especially remotely. Even the OpenAI guys are showing off:

This leaves a huge opportunity for the dramatic disruption of education - probably leading to whole new ways of working.

AI will now become mainstream very quickly

Dr Alex Connock on LinkedIn: #artificialintelligence #generativeai #gpt4 #microsoft365 #midjourney5…
As the founder of a leading newsletter points out, this may well have been the most consequential week in this history of #ArtificialIntelligence -…

Expect to see AI tools like image generation, auto writing and slide generation appearing inside your usual apps very soon.

Scripts can be written and re-written almost instantly.

There are already many dedicated apps just for writing screenplays. And you can adapt them almost instantly.

Image creation will become cheap, easy and of incredible quality

Initial AI imaging has been fairly easy to spot.  But with each new generation of AI engine, the ability of AI to draw, paint, render and sequence images will improve markedly.

Music production will be completely simplified.

There are only 12 notes to choose from - which means there are only a certain number of ways to put music together.

Adding AI to sequencing and sampling software will offer a world of convenience for producers and artists.

Publishers will publish a lot more content.

Given the speed and super low cost of generating text, images and soon audio and video, there will be even more content out there.

Marketing will become almost fully automated.

It will become impossible to discern human-made content from AI-made.

Already, 87% of respondents mistook an AI-generated image for a real photo of a person:

Society will lose trust in content.

Trust in the media has been on the rise in the USA - recovering after the fake news election of 2016:

But, with the proliferation of generative AI tools, and the resulting explosion in content, there is almost a guarantee of fake news generation going through the roof. I'd expect a return to the depths of 2016/17 in the next election cycle.

Influencers will become the most trusted members of society.

In a world of ever more content and consternation, people will increasingly look to other people for safety and reassurance.

If you are over 60, in the media that will likely be a newsreader or TV personality.

But if you're 25, it's likely to be a YouTube influencer.

Influencers feel like friends mentors and leaders to their followers. They feel accessible, even accountable.

And they live in a world that appears aspirational and fair - even if the reality is somewhat different.

I expect the President of the USA elected in 2036 to have initially grown to prominence as an influencer before taking office.

This is simply the modern version of Ronnie Regan, Arnie or Trump upgrading from celebrities to political leaders.

Deepfakes will abound

With influencers carrying so much sway, there will be a significant market for hackers to deliver deep fakery at scale.  No longer just stealing credit card details on an industrial scale, generative AI will be a blessing to those who want to turn identity theft into the next criminal gold rush.

So, for top creatives, AI will become a brilliant tool in an ever-growing box of tricks.

We've already seen an episode of South Park premier which co-credited ChatGTP as the writer:

I have already spoken to a number of TV producers who have used AI to help develop visual elements for their shows.

One was developing a studio set design for a quiz show.

Another used AI to create the movie poster for their new crime documentary.

I've used AI to deliver images for client presentations and pitch decks.

Generative AI isn't going anywhere.

It will help cut down the time it takes to develop new brands and deliver professional content.

It will become integrated into our workflows and our creative output

And in a few years, we won't even notice it.

Imagine trying to write a news story or make a movie without Google search?

That's how generative AI will feel before long.

However, there is a huge weight of expectation and responsibility on two sections of the industry right now to ensure the godlike powers of generative AI and used for good and not evil.

AI companies need to ensure they operate at the very top of the ethical tree.

And social media platforms must redouble their efforts to filter out fake news and nefarious identity theft.

For the rest of us content entrepreneurs, the opportunity is a huge one for early adopters.

Saddle up, and get stuck in!!
